"I tried to help her but she/he just wouldn't do what I told her to do."
The dominating personality does not know how to help. They think "helping" means taking over, even when they are clueless about the dynamics of any situation.
"I'm here, what do you need me to do."
"What can I do to help you accomplish..."
This is how you help. You can help without taking over.
